The Week in Twelve Games

Every club played exactly two games between the July 3 snapshot and this one — games 9 and 10, twelve games, no byes and no asterisks. This section and the three that follow it count only what happened in them. The season-to-date reference starts further down, at League at a Glance.

The caused-out spike

• Noah Dockstader caused three outs — the most anyone has caused in a single week, tying the record he now shares with Roy Hammon — while also taking more new at-bats than anybody in the league. Volume giveth.
• Two players had every hit they got erased. Amie Z Barlow went 2-for-5 and caused two outs: .000 for the week. Pauline Timpson went 1-for-6 and caused one: also .000. They are the cleanest demonstration of what the adjusted average actually does — a hit and a caused out cancel exactly, and two players spent a whole week proving it.
• Two clubs kept their hands completely clean: Elliot's team and Sefton's team, zero caused outs across 142 at-bats between them. Nobody else managed fewer than two.

Who played, who sat

• Twenty-three players never came to the plate, and every single team sat at least one. Sefton's team sat four — the most in the league — and won both games anyway.
• One of the men who sat is the eighth-best hitter in the league. Wesley Williams (.786) took the week off; so did Charles Williams (25th, on the heaviest workload in his club) and Scott Naylor (21st). Nobody noticed, because of what Jeremy's team did without him — see Team Temperature.
• Noah Dockstader took 17 new at-bats, the heaviest workload of the week, and hit .471 on them. Lewis Hammon took 14 at a .714 clip; Lizzy Horsley took 14 and hit .643; Sophia Cawley took 14 and hit .286. Reps are not a reward. They are a chance, and four men did four different things with the same one.

Perfect Weeks, and the Ones Who Fell

What each player did in games 9 and 10, set against what he had been doing all season. The swing column is that gap — the week's rate minus the player's own line through July 3. A .333 week means nothing until you know the man was a .708 hitter.

How far each club played from its own standard: its rate in games 9 and 10 minus its own season average through July 3. This is deliberately not the change in a team's season line — that number is a fifth the size, and it shrinks every week as the season piles up at-bats behind it. This is what actually happened on the field.

The week, team by team

• The bats decided the week. The correlation between a club's week average and the points it scored in those two games is r = +0.936 — very nearly deterministic. Against wins it is +0.743. Whatever else happened out there, the team that hit better in games 9 and 10 almost always outscored the one it was playing.
• Elliot's team are the reason it isn't 1.000. They hit .512, twelve points above their own season line. They caused zero outs. They scored 23 and allowed 26 across the two games. They lost both. That is the entire résumé of a club sitting eleventh.
• Seth's team had the second-worst week — .431, 130 points below their line — and it is the strangest row in the table. The best hitter in the league plays for them, and he went 6-for-6. The other ten men who batted went 20-for-45 and caused four outs: a .356 week around a perfect one.

The Standings

What all that hitting was actually for — from cpsoftball.com/standings.php, snapshotted alongside the July 10 stats. The table is the season; the notes below it are the week. Three clubs went 2-0, three went 0-2, six split — and it was enough to change the name at the top.

• Caleb's team took first place. Two wins, and the club that had led this league since the paper started — Stafford's team — went 1-1 and handed it over. Both sit on eight wins; Caleb's team has one fewer loss and the extra tie. They did it with the 4th-best bat in the league and the 2nd-stingiest defense on the board: 84 points allowed all season.
• Ephraims Daniel's team won a game. Their first, in ten tries. The league no longer has a winless team — and the Luck column says it should have happened sooner: −.250, the most extreme number on the board, a points profile that earns a .350 record, stuck at .100. They outscore four of the teams above them.
• Staffords team's invoice is still in the mail. Luck +.243, the largest in the league: an 8-2 record built on the points profile of a coin-flip team (Pyth .557). They went 1-1 this week and were outscored by seven doing it. The bill has not arrived. It has not been cancelled, either.
• Horatio's team is still the on-paper juggernaut: the most points scored (150), the fewest allowed (83), the best differential (+67) — and third place anyway. The paper keeps waiting to matter.
• Claude's team have the emptiest average in the league, again: .569 (5th-best) on the most team at-bats (383), converted into the fewest points per plate trip on the board — 27 per 100 at-bats, against a league range of 27 to 41. They climbed a rung anyway.
• Michael's team climbed while barely batting: the fewest at-bats in the league (258), the fewest points scored (80), and a move up to 9th regardless. The bar for the middle of this board is currently on the floor.

League at a Glance

That was the week. Here is the season — everything from this point down is measured across all 4,003 at-bats, and the numbers move slowly by design. A perfectly balanced league: 12 teams, 12 players each, drafted in 12 rounds.

The Batting Race

The season's title chase, and the first of the season sections — everything from here down is measured across all 4,003 at-bats, not just this week's. "Hits back" is the gap at a chaser's own volume: how many extra net hits they would have needed, over their own at-bats, to match the leader's rate.

The Draft Board — Round-by-Round Averages

Average adjusted average by draft round. Bars run on a 0–1.000 scale (an average is a rate). Twelve rounds, one direction — the board prices talent almost perfectly, which makes the two exceptions in the notes below the story.

• The round 6 bump survives a third edition. Round 6 (.603) out-hits rounds 4 (.591) and 5 (.582) and ties round 3 (.602). Captains keep dozing off in the middle rounds — that's where Wesley Williams (.786) and Seth Timpson (.750) were still on the board.
• At-bats follow the draft order too. First-rounders take 34 trips to the plate on average; 11th-rounders get 18. Part of the late-round fade in the table above is opportunity, not ability — you can't out-hit a bench.
• Round 11 still beats rounds 10 and 12 on the season (.440 vs .383 and .348) — though it finally lost a weekly battle (see the Round Rooms).
• No first-rounder has busted — still. The round's floor is Michael Williams at .591, a number that clears the league-wide player median (.538) and would pass for a decent mid-round return. For the opposite experience, round 8 spans .200 to .800 at a single price point — the Second Look puts a number on that risk.

The Sleeper File

Everyone drafted in round 6 or later who is hitting like a top-third player (15+ at-bats to filter out hot streaks). League rank here is by batting average, out of 144 (the Verdict ranks by value, so the numbers differ slightly); six of the names below sit in the top 35 overall, two of them in the same Horatio's team dugout.

One thing that jumps out about every team

• Jeremy's team — Both crowns: best team average (.621) and best report card (below). They hold four of the league's top eight bats, which is not a thing any other club can say, and the boom-or-bust label no longer fits. It's just boom.
• Horatio's team — Five caused outs as an entire roster. No other club is under eight; Gideon's team have 21. The league's politest offense is also its second-best one — those two facts are related.
• Sefton's team — Still the deepest lineup in the league: 11 of 12 players above .500, and nobody else has more than nine. The engine cooled two straight weeks, though — the batting lead they held on June 12 is now a two-spot deficit.
• Caleb's team — The pennant leaders carry the 4th-best bat, powered by the late-round finds: Ryan Hammon (R5, .694) and Anson Johnson (R9, .633). Heaviest workload in the league after Claude's team (379 ABs).
• Claude's team — Iron-horse team: league-most 383 at-bats, and quietly the steadiest lineup in the league (σ = .110 across player averages, the tightest spread). The bad news: the caused-out bug is spreading (15, third-most), and the famous Sean Hammon steal is cooling in real time.
• Stafford's team — A 2nd-place club whose best bat is Adam Dockstader's .703, the lowest team-best of any contender, backed by the 6th-ranked lineup. The Standings' new Luck column (+.243, largest in the league) names the secret ingredient — and it isn't the hitting.
• Gideon's team — The league's great tragedy, act three: second-best raw hitting (.619), worst caused-out total (21 — six new ones this week alone). The penalty costs them five batting slots. Benjiman Barlow alone has 5.
• Seth's team — One MVP, six .500 hitters, no cavalry. The best bat in the league plays here and the club sits 10th; the week's table shows exactly how that arithmetic works out.
• Boyds Daniel's team — Nobody's outcomes swing wider: σ = .191 across player averages, a bench that seats both Maureen Williams (the draft's round-11 heist) and Layla Hammon (.091, the league's basement). The heater they rode through June has been cashed out — −.011 on the week.
• Ephraims Daniel's team — The first win finally landed, and Scott Naylor (.700) leads the roster from the ninth round. The season-long problem is unchanged: rounds 1–6 have cost them −4.22 z, worst early-draft showing in the league.
• Elliot's team — The roster tops out at Lonnie Timpson's .724, the lowest ceiling in the league, with just five bats clearing .500 beneath it. Larry Stubbs (R7, .640) is the quiet exception on a team that never found a loud one.
• Michael's team — Their real opponent is attendance: 258 team at-bats against the 383 on Claude's team. Their best bat, Nathan Knudson (.733), has 30 at-bats all season — and their captain is round 1's cellar row (see The Penthouse).

Draft-Day Report Card

Total z across the whole roster — did each team's twelve picks over- or underperform what their draft slots predicted? This is the closest thing the league has to a "front office" grade.

The Draft Board, Second Look

Averages only tell you what a round returns. This table is about what a round risks: how wide the outcomes spread, how often a pick busts, and how sloppy the plate discipline gets. (For what a pick is worth — re-pricing every player by production — see The Verdict.)

• The casino opens in round 8. Outcomes there scatter across σ = .162, the widest of any round, against round 1's league-tightest .076 — a .800 (Paul Hammon) and a .200 (Michael Timpson) bought at the same price. Round 1, meanwhile, has yet to produce a bust: 12-for-12 above .500, nobody below the league median.
• Round 3 is the hollow round. Eleven of its twelve clear .500 — and six of twelve still sit below the league median. Safe and disappointing at the same time: almost nobody busted, almost nobody paid the round-3 price back. The Verdict holds the receipts (Kayden Timpson, the docket's longest fall, is a third-rounder).
• Round 6 keeps showing off. A mid-round price with an early-round risk profile: 9 of 12 in the .500 club, only 3 of 12 below the league median (rounds 4 and 5 carry 5 and 4), and one of the cleanest sheets at the plate (2.3 CO per 100 AB). The bump isn't just returns — it's also safety.
• Round 9 is where the plate manners go. Its twelve players have caused 19 outs — 6.6 per 100 at-bats, both league worsts — while round 1 has spilled six all season (1.5 per 100). Sloppiness, it turns out, gets drafted on schedule too.

Who mined which rounds

Each team's draft grade, split into the front half (rounds 1–6) and the back half (rounds 7–12). This is where the report card's totals come from — and the halves tell very different stories.

The Back Office

The accounting department: who's giving averages back at the plate, who's never spilled a drop, who's carrying the heaviest workloads, and what the league actually looks like as a distribution.

The caused-out ledger

• The honor roll is shrinking: 65 of 144 players have never caused an out — down from 78 at the last edition. The league total jumped from 98 to 136, and it's concentrated: these sixteen players account for 54 of them. The survivors now get their own table: the Clean Hands Club, below.
• Gideon's team own the ledger's top shelf. Benjiman Barlow (5), then Abe Dockstader, Kyle Dockstader, and Douglas Hammon (4 apiece): one dugout holding four of the five worst offenders and 17 of its own league-leading 21. That's the tax that turns the league's second-best raw hitting (.619) into its seventh-best adjusted (.556).
• A caused out erases a hit. Benjiman Barlow now has five, the only player in the league with more than four — enough to turn a very good bat into a quiet .541.

The Clean Hands Club

The ledger's other page — new this edition. 65 of 144 players have never caused an out; these eight have carried the most at-bats without a single spill.

• Taylor Timpson is the league's cleanest heavy bat: 59 at-bats — the biggest workload in the league — without one caused out. The MVP is here too: Cuervo's .864 has zero asterisks of any kind.
• Treyton Timpson finally gets a good table. The Verdict's most-litigated name (52 at-bats of .500 against a round-3 price) is, at least, immaculate: not one of those at-bats hurt anybody but himself.
• Yes, a Good Guy made it. Evan Williams has 40 immaculate at-bats on the roster carrying the league-worst 21 caused outs — he has never cost a teammate a hit all season. What he did with his own at-bats lately is a separate matter entirely.

The iron horses

• The Timpsons run the timesheet. Taylor, Treyton, and Claude hold the three heaviest workloads in the league, and Cuervo makes it four Timpsons in eight seats. The Dynasty Ledger ranks the family fourth of nine by average; by attendance there's no contest.
• Nobody gets penciled in like Taylor Timpson: 59 at-bats — next-closest is 52 — and a .661 average that keeps earning him the next one.
• Check the stars' rows before crying small-sample. Cuervo Timpson's .864 rides the sixth-heaviest workload in the league (44 ABs); Claude Timpson's .760 rides the third (50). Those aren't hot streaks that survived a spot check — they're seasons.

The shape of the league

• In this league, .500 is still below average — but less so than before. 90 of 144 players are at .500 or better and the median is .538; a .500 hitter sits at the 38th percentile, up from the 34th.
• The middle is sagging. The .300s bucket nearly doubled between editions (12 → 21 players) as a cold league week pulled the strugglers down; the .500s thinned from 41 to 36.
• The elite tail doubled: six players now sit in the .800s — Cuervo Timpson (.864), Sefton Dockstader (.833), Curtis Knudson (.806), and three dead-even .800s — and, as of this edition, still nobody in the .900s.

What Changed: the Season Lines

The front of the paper is about the week. This section is about what the week did to the season — the cumulative ledger, where a 1-for-6 shows up as a rounding error and a whole month shows up as a crown. Everything here compares against the July 3 edition. The week itself is at the top of the page.

Biggest season-average movers

Change in full-season adjusted average between editions, for players with a real sample at both checkpoints (8+ ABs on July 3, 15+ now).

• This is the damping, in one table. The biggest season-line move on the entire board is +.194 — Brenda Naylor, who nearly tripled her average. Every other number here is smaller than that. Now go and read the Collapse, where fifteen players batted 300 points or more below their own line and one of them batted 598 below it. Same fortnight, same men, numbers six times the size. A season average is a slow instrument by design — this week is only 21% of the at-bats sitting behind it, and that share shrinks every edition. It is precisely why the front of this paper stopped measuring the week through the season line and started measuring it directly.
• Riley Barlow's sleeper arc ended here too. A Tier-1 name in the July 3 Sleeper File at .722, he leaves this edition at .577 and out of the file entirely — the biggest season-line fall on the board.
• Ephraims Daniel's team own two of the six biggest fallers — Lorenzo Cawley and Noah Dockstader — in the same week they finally won a game. Softball is not a linear sport.

Streaks & Slides

New this edition — the first feature that needed three snapshots to exist. One hot week is noise; these players have now trended the same direction across both periods of the season (period rate rising and above their own season line, or falling and below it; 6+ at-bats in each period). Top six of 35 streaking, top six of 42 sliding.

• The MVP is accelerating. Cuervo Timpson hit .957 across the season's first stretch and 1.000 across the second. His .864 season line is therefore the drag of his early weeks, not his current form — a rare case where the cumulative number understates the man. Nathan Knudson's arc is steeper still: .600, then 1.000.
• Sean Hammon's fairy tale is now in measured decline: .400 one stretch, .167 the next, both below his .517 season line. The round-12 steal isn't regressing to the mean — it's regressing through it.
• Team arcs went six-and-two. Six clubs cooled in both periods — Gideon's team most violently, .591 down to .421, with Seth's team (.615 → .431) close behind — while only Jeremy's team (.617 → .667) and Caleb's team (.591 → .600) heated twice. The two clubs trending up across both halves of the season are the two holding the trophies — the batting crown and first place. It is the only forecast this desk is willing to make.

The records board

The weekly record book — every future edition gets to chase it. One record fell this week, and the board finally grows a category for the other half of the story.

• Hottest week (min 10 ABs): Cuervo Timpson, .957 — June 12 → July 3.
• Coldest week (min 10 ABs): Dorothy Dockstader, .154 — June 12 → July 3.
• Best team week: Jeremy's team, .667 — July 3 → July 10. New record — breaks Horatio's team's inaugural .632.
• Worst team week (new category): Gideon's team, .421 — July 3 → July 10. The board kept only the good half of every story until now, and it seemed unfair to leave Gideon's team without the one record they have earned outright.
• Best family week: Knudson, .700 — June 12 → July 3. (They chased their own record this week and fell short at .625.)
• Biggest workload week: Taylor Timpson, +30 at-bats — June 12 → July 3.
• Most caused outs in a week, team: Gideon's team, +9 — June 12 → July 3. Their +6 this week — matched, remarkably, by Michael's team — didn't threaten their own mark.
• Most caused outs in a week, player: +3, shared — Roy Hammon (June 12 → July 3) and Noah Dockstader, who tied it this week.

Bookkeeping

• All 144 (team, draft pick) slots joined cleanly between the July 3 and July 10 snapshots — no name corrections this week. Week-over-week comparisons join players on (team, draft pick), never on names.

Team Sheets

The section readers commissioned last edition, now a fixture: every roster's draft-day coup and regret — the best and worst pick relative to round expectation — plus who ran hottest and coldest in the July 3 → July 10 window.

Best and worst pick, per team

• Michael's team list their own captain as the roster's worst pick. Michael Williams's .591 would be fine money anywhere else — from a first-round slot it's −1.65 z. (He's a shortstop, so the glove half of that pick is doing fine.) Nathan Knudson (R3, .733) is the roster's redeeming coup.
• Claude's team's best pick hits .517. Sean Hammon's +2.21 z is still the league's biggest round-relative win — which at this point says more about round 12 than about him.
• The regret seat on Ephraims Daniel's team changed hands: Scott Naylor (R9, .700) is still the coup, but Lorenzo Cawley (R10, .200) took the other chair from Brenda Naylor, whose .294 no longer even leads the team in regret. Progress of a sort.

Hot and cold bat of the week, per team

• The perfect weeks look different from here. Nathan Knudson's came against a round that hit .584 — the widest gap over round expectation on any sheet. Cuervo Timpson's came from round 2, which collectively hit .711; against that bar it is merely excellent. Same 1.000, two very different achievements.
• The record team week was captain-led: Jeremy Dockstader Marvins hit .889 for Jeremy's team while William Timpson matched him at .889 — two of the week's four hottest bats, one dugout.
• Read this table against the round, not the league. A .667 week from a first-rounder is a below-average week — round 1 hit .682 as a group — while Heather Williams's .167 from round 12 sits close to a round that managed .224. The muted number in each cell is the bar the player was actually clearing, and it is the only honest way to grade a hot column against a cold one.

The Verdict — Who Justified Their Pick

Averages flatter part-timers, so this section judges every player on value: net hits above what a league-average bat would produce in the same at-bats — (avg − .557) × ABs. A .750 hitter over 30 at-bats (+5.8) outranks a .780 hitter over 20 (+4.5): production you actually showed up for. Rank all 144 by value, deal them back out twelve per round, and every player gets a true round — where the stats say they should have been drafted. The verdict: 89 of 144 players have justified their pick (true round at or better than where they actually went), and 26 were priced exactly right. New this edition, every True Rd column carries a Move arrow — the change in a player's true round since the July 3 edition, standings style. The market was busy: 90 of 144 players changed true round this week. Shortstops — the league's premium defensive position — are tagged · SS: their price bought a glove this ledger can't see.

Priced exactly right

True round = drafted round: the 26 transactions the season has audited and found exact. No bargain, no bill — the captains paid list price and got list value, at every point on the menu.

• Round 1's receipts all cleared. The table opens with five round-1 shortstops — Claude Timpson, Gideon Hammon, Sefton Dockstader, Horatio Williams, Daniel Williams — and four of those are captains who called their own number. When this league pays a premium, the premium shows up.
• The other honest end is round 12. Bowen Hammon, Heather Williams, Alyssa Zitting, Isabel Dockstader, and Pauline Timpson all went last and hit like it — five clean transactions at the bottom of the market. An accurate "meh" still counts as scouting.
• Seth's team and Gideon's team priced three picks exactly right apiece — the two most self-aware drafts in the league, for whatever consolation that offers a pair of teams in the standings' bottom half.

The bargains — justified it and then some

The eight widest gaps between price and product, product on top — ranked by rounds of daylight between where they were drafted and where the value math seats them.

• Maureen Williams got seven free rounds — in pick terms she went #130 and ranks league #40, a 90-slot climb that is still the draft's longest. Violet Barlow (+6) makes it two round-11 heists on one table, one apiece for Boyds Daniel's team and Claude's team.
• Sean Hammon fell off this table. Last edition he was a co-champion bargain at +8 rounds; two cold weeks later he grades +4 and misses the cut. His ▼4 (true R4 → R8) is the biggest single-week fall anywhere on the docket. The market corrects.
• The round-6 bump, quantified: Wesley Williams and Seth Timpson were sixth-round picks producing like first-rounders. And mind the small print: Paul Hammon and Scott Naylor bought their +5s on just 10 at-bats each — the thinnest evidence on the table.

The bills that came due — didn't justify it

The mirror image: the eight picks the value math marks furthest below their price. Check the ABs column before objecting on anyone's behalf — most of these verdicts rest on a real season, not a bad fortnight.

• Kayden Timpson is the draft's most expensive lesson: in at pick #29, out at league #116 — an 87-slot fall, the deepest on the docket (only Maureen Williams's 90-slot climb travels farther, in the happier direction), and it comes on 39 at-bats, so nobody gets to blame the sample.
• Treyton Timpson's case file keeps thickening. A .500 average is a perfectly respectable thing to own — the problem is the 52 at-bats underneath it, more than anyone in the league except Taylor Timpson. At a round-3 price, the stats keep filing him under round 9, and the volume makes it the best-documented overdraft on the board.
• One shortstop appears — Ephraims Daniel Dockstader (R4, true R9) — and his price bought the league's premium glove, which this table can't see. The same caveat covers Michael Williams's round-1 slot in the mirror below. Bats are only half the receipt.

The Dream Team

One player per round — a draft-legal roster — choosing the best value at every slot, not the best average. This team would out-produce a league-average roster by +59.8 net hits.

• Four of twelve seats turned over this week — each marked in the table. The cruelest: round 6, where Wesley Williams, the Sleeper File's crown jewel, lost his chair without taking a swing — zero period at-bats while Seth Timpson (+7.0) kept hitting. Rounds 3 and 7 turned on the cold list: Evan Williams (two-week slide) and Riley Barlow (ended sleeper arc) gave way to Aryck Hammon and Anthony Williams.
• Round 4 flipped on the volume principle's own terms: Curt White (.743 across 35 at-bats, +6.5) edges out last edition's pick Taylor Timpson (.661 across a league-high 59, +6.2). Fifty-nine at-bats of very good lost to thirty-five of excellent — barely.
• The anchor fight came down to a decimal. Claude Timpson (+10.2) noses out Gideon Hammon (+10.1) for the round-1 seat — both shortstops, so the fantasy roster keeps a real glove either way — and then Cuervo arrives in round 2 at +13.5, worth more than the man anchoring the team.
• Only six of twelve teams place someone. Caleb's team and Horatio's team place three each — and Jeremy's team, the best batting team in the league, place nobody: their season is a broad plateau, not a set of peaks.
• Round 10's best value finally went positive: Jayla Dockstader at +1.1, up from −0.1 last edition. Round 12's did not — Sean Hammon's −1.1 is the roster's only negative row. The floor remains the floor.
• No rulebook assist required, again. The league's two-women-per-roster rule never has to intervene here: Maureen Williams (R11) and Jayla Dockstader (R10) hold their seats on raw value for the second edition running. The Dream Team stays coed the honest way.

The Captain's Mirror

The draft ran in the order below and snaked every round — and each captain had to draft themselves somewhere. This table is the stats' verdict on their self-scouting: the pick they spent on themselves versus the round their season is actually worth.

• Self-confidence ran six deep at the top. Picks #1 through #6 were all captains drafting themselves — Gideon, Horatio, Sefton, Elliot, Claude, Michael, the shortstop-captains in one unbroken run — until Seth Cawley broke the streak at #7 by spending it on Sam Guy. The Gap column above is the season's verdict on those six openers: four cleared at par, and two came back marked overpaid (Elliot −3, Michael −4).
• Half the room graded out at par. Six of twelve captains sit at "priced exactly right": Gideon, Horatio, Sefton, Claude, Seth Cawley — and Stafford Hammon, whose true round slid one (▼1) to land squarely on his round-3 self-pick, the rare case of a captain cooling into correctness. The benchmark is still Gideon Hammon, who spent the #1 overall pick on himself and has returned +10.1 net hits on it — on the value board, only Cuervo Timpson (+13.5) and Claude Timpson (+10.2) have out-earned him. Pick #1, it turns out, was also priced exactly right.
• Exactly one captain undersold himself: Jeremy Dockstader Marvins, who waited until round 3 for a bat now grading true round 2 (.800). Fitting, since his team runs the report card.
• The generous self-evaluations: Michael Williams (round 1 for a true-R5 bat), Caleb Barlow and Elliot Hammon (−4 and −3), and the two Daniels — though Michael, Elliot, and Ephraims Daniel are shortstops, and a captain who prices his own glove gets some benefit of the doubt in this ledger. Caleb's defense is simpler: his team is in first place.
• Seat #12 keeps looking like the smart chair. The snake hands Jeremy's team its picks in adjacent pairs at every turn (#12–#13, #36–#37…) while Gideon's team sweats out 22 picks between selections. The seats aren't destiny, but this edition they rhyme with it: the pair-picker tops the report card at A+; the long-waiter has slipped to a C.

The full docket — all 144 verdicts

Every player in the league in true draft order — pick #1 through pick #144, snake turns included (even rounds run in reverse team order). True Rd is where the stats say you belonged, Move is how that changed since July 3 (▲ climbed toward round 1, ▼ fell, = held), Gap is the verdict — green justified the pick with rounds to spare, = priced exactly right, red should have gone later — and League # is your value rank out of 144. The heavier lines start a new round.

• The longest climb still starts at pick #130. Maureen Williams went fifteen picks from the end of the draft and sits at league #40 — a 90-slot climb. Sean Hammon (#140 → #85) is regressing toward his price but keeps a 55-slot cushion.
• The falls start early. Kayden Timpson's 87 slots (#29 → #116, detailed in the bills above) is the deepest drop anywhere, and among the draft's first two rounds nobody has sunk further than Jairus Hammon — called at #24, producing at #92.
• Round 1, read top to bottom, is a defense of round 1. Four of the league's top seven value ranks belong to round-1 shortstops (Claude #2, Gideon #3, Sefton #5, Horatio #6), eight of twelve first-rounders grade in the true top two rounds, and even the worst case — Michael Williams at #57 — never left the top half of the league.
• Read the docket's last three rows as a pricing seminar. Dorothy Dockstader (#144) and Karen Hammon (#143) arrived on round-10 and round-9 picks; Pauline Timpson (#142) arrived on a round-12 pick and therefore, by this table's cold arithmetic, did nothing wrong. The docket never punishes a bad season — only a bad price.
• And pick #144 is appreciating. Becky Wood, the last name called on draft day, climbed a full round this week (▲1, true round 10, gap +2) and now out-produces 32 players somebody paid more for. "Still technically a bargain" — this page's standing line on her — is starting to undersell it.
• The docket is zero-sum by construction: of 144 verdicts, 89 players justified their pick — 26 of them exactly — and 55 fell below their slot. Every climb is somebody else's fall; a captain's job isn't avoiding red rows, it's making fewer of them than the other eleven captains.
• The market repriced 90 of 144 players this week — a light week of at-bats, and still nearly two-thirds of the true rounds moved. The biggest climb belongs to Jason W Timpson (▲3, true R9 → R6); the biggest fall is Sean Hammon's ▼4. Most moves are a single round — treat a ▲1 as noise and a ▲3 as news.

• The season-long superlatives, room by room: Cuervo Timpson (R2, .864, +1.70 z) is still an MVP who wasn't a first-round pick; Sean Hammon (R12, +2.21 z) is still the single biggest overperformance of any pick in the draft, from slot #140 of 144; and Layla Hammon (R10, .091, −2.07 z) remains alone at the bottom now that Brenda Naylor has climbed off the floor. The loudest small sample stays Paul Hammon (R8): 8-for-10, zero caused outs.
• The Penthouse's cellar row is a captain. Michael Williams (.591, −1.65 z) took round 1's underperformer seat from Heber Williams this edition — awkward, since he drafted himself #6 overall (the Captain's Mirror has the full self-scouting docket; the glove half of the pick is doing fine).
• Round 2 won the week (.711) — the first time in the ledger that round 1 (.682) has lost a weekly head-to-head to the round below it. It had help: one of the three perfect weeks came from round 2, and so did Lonnie Timpson's .875 and Curtis Knudson's .857.
• Round 12 cratered: .224 as a group, the worst round-week this publication has recorded, dragging its season line down to .348. Two of its twelve went hitless on the week (Pauline Timpson, Lincoln Wood — see Cold Bats).
• Round 11's strange edge finally cracked: it hit .393 this period and lost to round 10 (.426) for the first time — though its season-long lead over rounds 10 and 12 (.440 vs .383 and .348) survives another week.
